Game Recap

Saint Joseph Academy, behind seven first-inning runs and a strong relief appearance from freshman pitcher Erin LaBoe, advanced to the district semifinals with a 15-2 win in five innings over Strongsville on Wednesday evening.

The Jaguars will take on Parma High School on Tuesday, May 16 at 5:30 p.m. At Cuyahoga Community College-West Campus. It will be the second game of the district semifinal slate.

Saint Joseph Academy pounded out 14 hits in the win, led by Maddie Kimble (pictured) and Hannah Nodge with three hits a piece. LaBoe did not allow a base runner in four innings in relief of Mallory Ambrosio.

Both teams got off to quick starts to open the game. Strongsville scored two runs in the top of the first as Drew Dzurko doubled to drive in a pair and the Mustangs led 2-0 after a half inning.

In the bottom of the first the Jaguars got things going as they scored three runs before recording an out. Ronain Heath started the game with a walk and then was driven in by a Kimble double. Mackenzie Milligan followed that with a single that scored Kimble. After a Nodge single and walks by Sydnie Whitaker and Mary Carosella, Allison Lane drove in a pair of runners with two outs. Kimble then singled to score Carosella and Lane as the Jaguars hung a seven spot on the board in their opening inning.

The Jaguars would tack on three runs in the second inning keyed by a double from Mary Carosella that scored Kylie Schmitz and Andrea Horrocks. In the third, Sydnie Whitaker had a two-run double which scored Nodge and Horrocks. Kimble led off the fourth with a triple and then scored on a single by Frankie Milosovic who eventually scored as Elizabeth Maxwell reached base.
