Meet Recap

The Jaguar tennis team improved to 6-0 with a rain-interrupted victory over Avon. Play was halted midway through the second set on most courts on Tuesday with the Jaguars holding a 1-0 lead. Mary Kate Kahl was victorious 6-1, 6-1 at third singles to get the Jags on the board. When the teams came back together on Thursday, SJA was leading both singles matches while Avon was leading the two doubles matches.

Avon quickly tied the match closing out a 6-2, 6-0 win at first doubles. Kerrigan Ponsart pushed SJA back ahead with a 6-2, 6-3 win at second singles and Melissa Martin clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles. At second doubles, Cassie Van Etten and Angela Weiland rallied from behind by taking the final three games of the second set and winning a super tiebreaker 10-8 for the match to clinch a 4-1 team win for the Jaguars.

Singles: Melissa Martin (SJA) d. Lauren Vajentic 6-1, 6-3; Kerrigan Ponsart (SJA) d. Piper Robbins 6-2, 6-3; Mary Kate Kahl (SJA) d. Sarah Khwaja 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles: Mackenzie Kneiss/Rachel Lando (A) d. Bridget FitzGerald/Abby Weaver 6-2, 6-0; Cassie Van Etten/Angela Weiland (SJA) d. Hope Zehr/Alyssa McClellan 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.
