The Jaguars tennis team placed 3rd at the Wooster Triway Invitational over the weekend, one point behind second place Wooster High School. The Jags had strong performances across the board, as the team won 2 out of 3 matches at every position. Leading the way for SJA was sophomore Kerrigan Ponsart who recorded a third place finish at second singles. Ponsart defeated opponents from Bay 6-2, 6-3 in the first round and Orrville 8-5 in the third place match. Freshman Mary Kate Kahl also had a third place finish at third singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Triway and an 8-2 victory over Strongsville in the third place match. The first doubles team of Abby Weaver and Bridget FitzGerald gave the Jags another third place finish with wins over Strongsville and Bay.
Sophomore Melissa Martin finished fifth at first singles with wins over Beaumont and Orrville and the second doubles team of Angela Weiland and Maggie Griffin also recorded a fifth place finish at second doubles with wins over Strongsville and Bay. The Jags’ overall team score of 21 points led to a tie for third place with Orrville. Highland won individual championships at all three singles positions and second doubles to win the team title with 31 points. The host school Triway secured the first doubles title.
