Saint Joseph Academy senior cross country & track runner Sydney Seymour has committed to continue her academic and athletic career at The University of Tennessee.
Seymour is one of the most decorated runners in the history of both the cross country and track and field teams. Just last weekend, she competed in her fourth state cross country meet where she finished 20th overall. She was named All-Ohio in cross country during her sophomore, junior and senior years. Her time of 18:04 at the Portage Invite in 2015 is the fastest cross country time in school history. She also was the district cross country champion in 2015 and a two-time regional runner-up. In addition, she won this year’s North Coast League meet, marking the first individual title in school history in the new conference.
On the track, Seymour was a state qualifier in the 3200-meter run in 2015 and has appeared at the regional meet in several events.
“I am very happy for Sydney and excited to see her compete at Tennessee,” said SJA head cross country coach Fred Kieser. “She has worked very hard for the past four years to get to this point and I am certain that she will compete very well in the SEC.”
Seymour will race again on November 18 in the Mid-East Meet of Champions held in Kettering, OH. This meet is for the top seniors in the state of Ohio.
Seymour will be part of the SJA signing day ceremony on Wednesday, November 15. Other Jaguars that will be honored that day include Colleen Neitzel (Basketball – University of Akron), Nora Clink (Volleyball – Ursuline College) and Beth Brady (Volleyball – Mercyhurst University).
