Saint Joseph Academy senior basketball player Kathleen DeCarlo has committed to Otterbein University to continue her academic and basketball career. Otterbein is a NCAA Division 3 school and is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference.
DeCarlo, who will be a four-year letterwinner at the completion of the season, has helped lead the Jaguars to a 16-4 record this season.
“I chose Otterbein University for two reasons,” said DeCarlo. “First, I have always dreamed about playing college basketball and my visits to watch the team play and in talking to the coaches and players, I feel like it is the perfect fit. I also have always wanted to pursue a career that had to do with sports and they have a sports management program that I am really excited about.”
DeCarlo has averaged three points and five rebounds per game this season but does all the intangibles that are required to have a successful team.
“Kathleen is a player who battled adversity with an injury that cut her junior year short,” said SJA Head Coach Maggie Ferrando. “She has fought her way back on the floor to become a key contributor her senior season. She is always the first one to dive on the floor and has no hesitation to get physical and be a tough player. I know that Kathleen is very passionate about the game of basketball and it has been a goal of hers to play at the next level in college. I am so proud of her that she has been able to achieve this goal. Otterbein is lucky to be getting such a mature, responsible, and overall great kid in Kathleen!”
DeCarlo will join Gia DiMassa ’17 on the Cardinals basketball team.
In addition, fellow SJA seniors Colleen Neitzel (Akron) and Molly Dever (IPFW) have also signed to play college basketball next season.
