Saint Joseph Academy swimmer Maddy Kelly has been selected as the 2017-18 North Coast League Most Valuable Swimmer by the NCL swimming coaches.
Kelly, a sophomore, won both the 50 freestyle and 100 yard backstroke at the conference meet held on February 5. Her time of 58.33 set a new pool record (Gilmour Academy) and a new North Coast League record. She helped lead SJA to a fifth place finish in the conference meet. In that meet, she also earned first-team all-conference recognition.
On Saturday, Kelly advanced to the district meet in four events: 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Last season as a freshman, she became the first swimmer in modern SJA history to advance to the state swimming meet where she finished 9th in the 100 backstroke.
SJA will be a full-time member of the North Coast League in 2018-19 but was invited to compete in postseason meets/tournaments this season.
