Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Gymnastics Competes in Sectional Meet; Buckley Advances In Vault

Saint Joseph Academy participated in the OHSAA sectional gymnastics meet for the first time in school history on Monday as juniors Sofie Buckley (pictured on bars) and Emma Weiss competed for the Jaguars.

The meet was held at West Geauga High School with the top 12 individuals on each event and in the all around qualifying to the district meet also held at West Geauga on Saturday, February 24th.

Emma Weiss earned her highest beam score of the season with an 8.4 while Sofie Buckley also performed her best floor routine of the season scoring an 8.875 just missing the qualifying score of 8.9.

Moving on to the last event of a long competition, the Jaguars headed to the vault where Sofie earned the 12th qualifying spot to the district meet out of a total of 91 competitors, scoring an 8.65. Sofie finished the meet with an all around score of 33.25 in 19th place while Emma finished with a 31.55 in 34th place out of a total of 64 all around gymnasts.

Sofie will compete in the vault competition on Saturday where the top 16 gymnasts will advance to the state tournament in Columbus on Saturday, March 3rd.
