Saint Joseph Academy senior swimmer Maddy Kelly has committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Saint Louis University. The Billikens compete in the NCAA Division 1 Atlantic 10 conference.
Maddy is a three-time OHSAA Division 1 state qualifier and currently holds the SJA school record in nine events, including individual school records in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley. She is also part of school record relay teams in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Last season, she was on the podium at the state meet as she finished 7th in the 100 backstroke while also competing in the 50 freestyle. As a sophomore, she finished 12th overall at state in the 100 backstroke and 14th overall in the 50 freestyle. She also earned North Coast League MVP honors that season. As a freshman, she competed in the consolation finals of the 100 backstroke. Maddy hopes to return to Canton for the state meet again this season.
