The Interscholastic Athletics Program at Saint Joseph Academy exists to provide a quality athletics experience for students who demonstrate an elevated level of skill. The opportunity to compete against another school’s program is secondary to the opportunity to learn valuable life skills in a Christian environment.
It is our belief at Saint Joseph Academy that a comprehensive athletics program will enhance the quality of the educational experience of the students by:
- Providing a vehicle by which students of demonstrated ability can be exposed to situations in sport, which allows them to learn and experiment with varied life skills.
- Supporting the efforts of the Academy to provide experiences which help participating students maintain or increase their levels of self-confidence and self-esteem.
- Contributing to the overall excellence of education by offering a wider variety of experiences to meet a wider variety of student abilities.
- Setting a standard of Christian behavior modeled by all adult personnel involved.
SJA is home to 15 varsity interscholastic athletic programs:
Crew -club season
During the 2018-19 school year, 54 percent of our students were a member of one of our sports teams with 166 students playing a sport in more than one season. Those athletes also excelled in the classroom as the GPA for student-athletes during the 2018-19 school year was 3.6!
Saint Joseph Academy was a member of the North Coast League during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years. The NCL has disbanded and SJA will return to be an independent school in 2020-21.
