The SJA tennis team fell 3-2 to Rocky River today. The Pirates swept the singles courts, while the Jaguars won both doubles matches. Melissa Martin ’20 played a fantastic match at first singles against returning state qualifier Sarah Robertson, falling 7-5, 6-0. Kerrigan Ponsart ’20 also had a close match as she rallied from a 2-5 second set deficit before falling 6-4, 7-5. In doubles action, Cassie Van Etten ’19/Abby Weaver ’19 were victorious 6-3, 6-2. The win was Weaver’s 72nd career victory which ties her for most in Saint Joseph Academy history. Catherine Mayer ’21/Maggie Griffin ’19 rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win at second doubles for the Jaguars. SJA falls to 11-6 on the season and completes NEOTA Division B play with a 3-3 record. The team is back in action at the Division I Oberlin Sectional Tournament tomorrow.
