The Saint Joseph Academy volleyball team is back in familiar territory.
On Tuesday evening in the district semifinal, the Jaguars topped Olmsted Falls 3-0 (25-12, 25-9, 29-27) to advance to Saturday’s OHSAA Division 1 Midview District Final. It will mark the fourth straight trip to the district championship match for the Jaguars who have won each of the past three titles.
The district final will feature the top-seeded Jaguars and rival Magnificat, the #2 seed who posted a 3-2 win over Avon in the other semifinal on Tuesday.
The Jaguars rolled in the first two sets before Olmsted Falls made things interesting in the third set. The Bulldogs went ahead early in the set and then again late and led the set at 24-21 with three set points. SJA though responded to score three in a row and tie the set at 24-24. The set was then tied again at 27 before SJA scored the final two points to seal the win.
Molly Neitzel and Cecy Guye led the Jaguars with 12 kills each while Katie Tuley had a team-high four blocks. Izzy Micheli and Kirsten Barrett each had nine digs while Sadie Joyce had a team-high 17 assists and eight digs.
The district final will be held on Saturday at Midview High School at 2:30 p.m. The winner of that match will move on to the regional semifinals to be played on November 1 at 7:30 at Norwalk High School. The opponent for that match will be the winner of the Toledo Notre Dame Academy vs. Sylvania Northview match that will be played on Thursday.
