The Saint Joseph Academy softball team advanced to the district final with a dramatic 1-0 victory over North Royalton on Tuesday. The Jaguars will now face #2 seeded Brecksville-Broadview Heights at 4:30 on Wednesday at Tri-C West. The Jaguars will be looking to capture their second district title in school history. SJA was district champions in 2013.
Against the Bears on Tuesday, Maya Johnson was terrific in the circle. She also received defensive help in several key moments. Sarah Harper made a great throw from 3rd base to end the 5th inning when North Royalton was threatening. The Bears made things interesting in the 7th innning as they loaded the bases with one out. The batter hit a slow roller back to Maya Johnson who fielded the ball and flipped it to catcher Molly Harrison who covered the plate and got the out. Johnson then struck out the final batter of the game to seal the win. SJA scored their lone run of the game in the third inning when Sarah Harper hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Andrea Horrocks.
SJA is now 21-5 on the season.
